The view/ map shows the bay at Kateros just east of Candia city/ Iraklion; the bay named after the Byzantine General, Krateros, who in 824 AD landed on the beach with his ships in order to liberate Crete from the Saracens, but was defeated. On the vast bay, there are two settlements, Karteros and Amnisos. Amnisos was Minoan settlement, and the bay was the location of the ports of Knossos. Dark impression, on laid paper, soiling to blank margins; dampstain to right, blank margin.;ink? stain just outside plate at lower blank margin.

The view/ map shows the coast , the castle of Liopetro,looking back along the coast to Spinalonga.
The fort of Liopetro was located in Fatsi position, near the village Hamezi (Sitia province). It is believed to have been built on the site of an older fort, of which the tank survives. Liopetro is built on a steep hill with panoramic views to all sides. Atop of it, there is the scenic chapel of Prophet Elias and the remains of walls, tanks and other buildings. Dark impression, on laid paper; dampstain to left blank margin.
