Petrus Bertius, professor of Mathematics at Leiden University, later became Cosmographer and Historiographer to Louis XIII of France. He wrote many works both geographical and theological, contributing
geographical material to the works of Clüver and Herrera.
He wrote the text for the "Tabularum Geographicarumum" for Cornelius Claesz to replace that of the unknown author of the "Caert -Thressoor"of Barent Langenes which had appeared in 1598 published in Middleburg
The atlas with Bertius text was first published in 1600 by Claesz in Amsterdam with maps by Petrus Kaerius, Jodicus Hondius & Benjanin Wright, it was to be published in a number of editions.
This edition published in Germany by Mattias Becker for Henry Lorentsz the successor of Cornelius Claesz. with German text.
