Copper engraving of a group of Spanish Gypsies by a fountain after the painting by Math. Artaria. Modern hand colour. Lightly toned and soiled; damp stain to upper left corner; plate mark at sides beginning to crack.

Mathias Artaria (1814-1885):
Painter, illustrator, genre painter. Travelled to Spain in 1844 to portray everyday peasant life.

Weber, Friedrich (1813-1882)
was a Swiss engraver .
He studied in Strasbourg between 1828-32 and under Karl Frommel 1832-35, at the Academy Munich and Paris and settled in 1861 in Basel. Weber did both portraits , and pictures for older and younger painters.
