The map which focuses on Frankfurt is surrounded by 34 coats of arms of the magistrates of Frankfurt . Above the map are allegorical figures of Justice, Wisdom, Unity and Peace; Justice holds with the arms of the Holy Roman Empire and Peace the arms of the city of Frankfurt. Bright original colour; paper lightly toned to margins; a few spots to blank margins; light crease near centrefold.

Oriented with west at the top this is Blaeu's second map of Brazil; many details around the coast, whilst the interior is mainly empty with a few conjectural features.
Decorative title cartouche and scale in each corner; compass roses and ships to sea . Generally a good impression with, probably, later hand colour; short split to lower centre fold [approx 7mm] repaired with archival tape to verso; a couple of spots to blank margins.

The map which is the first of Blaeu's maps of China has many mistakes and inaccuracies, for instance Korea is depicted as an island and Japan is lacking Hokkaido. In 1655 the map was replaced by the famous map of Father Martini, which corrected many of these inaccuracies.

Boissonas' beautiful work on Greece was first published in a limited edition of 230 in 1910 in a large elephant folio. 41 numbered plates [ photogravures and map in colour] and 85 photogravures within text. The image shows 2 varieties of the sea bream, with outline details of heads and profiles.
The species Scatharus graecus [Fam. Sparidae] from South Greece (French Exp. Moree) was described by Valenciennes (1830). It was never found again and the type is now lost (Hureau & Monod, 1973).
S.graecus probably is a synonym of Spondyliosoma cantharus. Very light toning; scattered spotting colors bright; tiny wormhole to lower right corner of plate.
